Check the power supply and battery

Many AC adapters have a prong on the end of the adapter that plugs into the computer. Look at the adapter's connector that plugs into the computer and look at the prong that looks bent or damaged. If there is, the computer is not getting any battery from the adapter. To correct this, the external adapter needs to be replaced. Some laptops have a prong inside the power jack that helps make a connection.

Disconnect from the docking station

Disconnect the docking station if your laptop has a docking station, disconnect it and connect the power cord directly to the laptop. Then, try turning on the laptop.

Remove and reconnect the battery

The laptop can also be in a low-power state that prevents it from being booted. Turn off the power cord and remove the battery from the laptop. Leave both disconnected for one minute. Then, replace the battery back into the laptop, connect the power cord, and attempt to boot the laptop.

Check your display

If the computer appears to be running or it's making at least some noise , but something is not appearing on the monitor, make sure the monitor and the computer are switched on and are attached. It's also worth checking the brightness was accidentally set to zero. If it's an option, try plugging the computer into a different monitor to see if that resolves the error.

Check your BIOS or UEFI settings

If you attempt to start-up your computer but Windows will not appear, there are various possible root causes. First things first, take a look at your computer's BIOS (Basic Input Output System), which, in most modern PCs, has been replaced with the far less friendly-sounding UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface). You might want to reference your computer's user manual to see which specific setting corresponds to your computer's BIOS.

  • 1. Turn on the PC.
  • 2. Immediately press the boot key specific to your PC; common keys include ESC, DELETE, F1, or F2.

When you're in the BIOS or UEFI, make sure your computer is set up to boot to your hard drive, disable Fast Boot, and seek out any other unusual settings that might be causing startup issues. You may also reset the BIOS or UEFI to factory default.

Boot in safe mode

If your computer does not start up, you might be able to get started in safe mode as long as it's possible to remove your latest software or drivers that could be affecting it. In safe mode, you may also create a new user account if your original one has been compromised.

Check hardware

Checking the assets you have installed is the final measure in troubleshooting power difficulties. If you are presently replacing RAM or other devices, the boot troubles may be attributable to this. Remove and reinstall your newfound gear and see if this resolves the problem. However, even if your hard drive becomes treacherous, there will not be a straightforward solution for this problem. If you hear a clicking noise, you might have failed hardware.

Diagnose, repair, or replace

Answering the question, Why did my computer not turn on? might seem like it would be difficult at first. Laptops are made to simplify our lives with built-in computing solutions suitable for anybody's lifestyle. But if you're interested in creating a wireless nation that allows you to work, study, and multitask wherever you're, then you don't want to experience an issue with your computer. If you find yourself with a problem that you can't fix yourself, ask your tech support for assistance.
